Honey has been wanting to learn how to tie her shoes for a good year now. The problem is she is not easy to teach sometimes. She pretty much feels she should be able to do everything and everything easily. So she was very impatient when I tried to teach her to tie, and we would shelve it for a while. Well last week my sister called me up to share her proud mommy moment. My nephew (who is 5 months younger then Honey) just learned how to ride his bike without his training wheels. In our conversation I asked if he also knew how to tie his shoes. Turns out she had just taught him recently, she said he picked it right up. It appears that was all the incentive Honey needed.

Love the big smile at the very end of the video. Combined with the shoe bling, this is too cute! I remember learning to tie shoelaces. A narrative went with it about the bunny with long ears going into the bunny hole and popping out the other side. Ta dum!

I was surprised at how easily she was able to hold it. She is so proud of herself she now ties her shoes every morning.

Oh yeah those are her Sketchers and her Twinkle toes at that. They are a little hard to get on but she had been wanting sketchers for ever and my sister bought them for her.

Woo hoo! This is one skill that we have yet to master. She is a lefty, so I have no idea how to teach her properly….very frustrating!
Colleen says
Oh with Nick being a lefty I had trouble, in fact I don’t recall teaching him. But my suggestion would be to face her so she can mirror your images. With Honey I had to get beside her so she could hold it the same way.

I always told my kids “over, under, around, and through, that’s how (insert name) ties their shoes.”

Whatever works right.

I really don’t remember teaching my boys at all LOL.

Sometimes they are just not ready rather physically or emotionally. Sometimes they just don’t want to bad enough to get it done right, in this case a little incentive truly can help. I have little patience for tech things. My son pointed this out when I switched rooms and he had to set everything up so it isn’t always the little ones! lol
